Erratic rainfall, prolonged droughts, and rising temperatures are disrupting traditional farming systems, threatening food security and livelihoods worldwide. However, Africa is most hit by these effects of climate change. In response, we are championing Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) to build resilience and ensure long-term sustainability in Western Kenya.

Our Climate-Smart Strategies

🌱 Drought-Tolerant Crops

We promote the cultivation of drought-tolerant cassava and sorghum varieties, which require less water and are more resistant to disease and climate stress. These varieties also mature faster and deliver reliable yields, even under harsh conditions.

💧 Water-Efficient Technologies

To address water scarcity, we constructed a 1,000-cubic-meter capacity water pan to harvest rainwater for both our farm operations and the surrounding community. However, growing demand has rendered this single source insufficient. In response, and in collaboration with partners, we are expanding our efforts by installing solar-powered irrigation systems and developing additional community water pans and manual boreholes. These interventions aim to provide consistent access to clean water for household use and small-scale farming, thereby enhancing community resilience and supporting year-round agricultural productivity.

Climate-smart agriculture is a lifeline for the communities we serve.

By rooting sustainability into farming, we are cultivating not just crops, but climate resilience, healthier ecosystems, and hope for a more food-secure future.
